Spring 2024 Trends

Some people have very strong feelings about NOT following trends, while others eagerly await the news about what’s “in” and what’s “out”. My philosophy about trends is that they should inspire you, but never feel like they are rules for us to follow. And since the word kind of gets a bad rap I prefer the term, “current”. From a wardrobe strategy perspective, I like to limit myself to a few “current” items per season so I don’t over index and throw my CORE STYLING SYSTEM off balance. And I rarely purchase expensive current items, instead I only invest in timeless, classic pieces. What I really love is to shop my closet and see what items I already have that I get inspired to wear again or style in a new way because they are trending. That way, it’s authentic because it’s something I already own, I just haven’t worn it in a while, or I’m trying it out in a different way. Here are some trends that I’m into for 2024. Hopefully you’ll find something that is inspiring for you!

Peachy Hues.

The Pantone 2024 color of the year is Peach Fuzz. If that color isn’t for you - consider darker or lighter versions. You’ll see a range of peachy hues in stores in the coming months. This lace top from Sezane is gorgeous - I have it in white and it’s beautifully made and elegant. I love to wear it with jeans for a feminine but casual look.

Cropped Blazers.

I love a little “swing jacket” and a cropped blazer has this vibe. I can’t wait to style my cropped jackets a little more casually this Spring. My St. John tweed jacket over a white t-shirt and jeans and of course my recent The Real Real Oscar de la Renta vintage jacket is going to get a lot of wear.

Corset laces.

Not lace, but the laces (like shoe laces) that would lace up a corset as a detail on shirts and other items. I’m not sure about this trend for me, but I do like the white lace up shirt from Mother.

Sweaters as scarves.

This is an oldie but a goodie - layering your sweater over your shoulders like a scarf was all over the runways for Spring Summer 2024. What a chic, easy layering look with nothing new to buy! I got inspired by seeing this trend on the runways and had some fun creating outfits in a new way. I love making the sweater a feature in the outfit instead of an afterthought. A stiped sweater like this one from Kule really adds style to an otherwise simple outfit. And wearing a fun sweater over a jacket is something I hadn’t thought about and love it.

Metallics.

Yes metallics like gold, silver and bronze are still in for 2024. Whether it’s clothing or accessories this is a nod to the upcoming Olympics and a great way to add a pop to an outfit. I’m not a big fan of metallic fabrics (for me - maybe if I’m in Vegas?). I do love metallic accessories and this trend reminded me to get out my gold and silver shoes and try them on with jeans. I always think of these as dressy shoes to wear once a year for a holiday party - but I’m going to definitely wear them more this Spring.

Rosettes.

Embellishments and accessories are such a great way to embrace trends because they aren’t a big investment. Carrie Bradshaw loved her rosettes - whether they were on dresses, in her hair, on hats or as a belt or even a scarf. A rosette is playful, feminine and oh so spring!

Capris & Bermudas.

We’re not talking about the capri pants from Chicos. Think retro, 1950’s “Gidget” style pants that hit just below the knee and long, baggier Bermuda shorts. Avoid anything that hits you at mid-calf (that’s really not flattering on anyone). This trend probably isn’t for everyone, but if it feels “you” have fun with this one. I just ordered this pair from Amazon to try out the look - maybe with a linen shirt and a cute belt. I definitely rocked this look when I was a teenager - but not sure how authentic I’m going to feel now. I’ll keep you posted!

Pencil Skirts.

A medium length pencil skirt in denim is a great “current” addition to your wardrobe because it’s also a little bit of a classic, timeless piece.

Kitten heels.

Flats and mules are still very “in” this spring, but the kitten heel was all over the runways and in an almost comical way - like a tiny nub of a heel coming off the sole. There’s something very flattering about a kitten heel instead of a complete flat. It might seem too dressy or fussy, but think about giving it a shot this season. They are very comfortable and a great alternative to a high heel if you want to dress up an outfit. I love my suede black ones from Amazon - they look like Manolo Blahnik!
